{"id":187418,"date":"2024-07-23T15:00:49","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T20:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/?p=187418"},"modified":"2024-07-23T18:27:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T23:27:47","slug":"wow-map-icons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/2024\/07\/23\/wow-map-icons\/","title":{"rendered":"New map icons in WoW are a welcome sight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/2024\/07\/15\/changes-coming-war-within-pre-patch\/\"><em>The War Within<\/em>\u00a0patch 11.0.1<\/a> many <a href=\"https:\/\/news.blizzard.com\/en-us\/world-of-warcraft\/24117139\/user-interface-and-quest-updates-in-the-war-within\">new quality of life updates<\/a> are rolling out, but one in particular caught our eye: even more custom quest map markers! Instead of a sea of mostly yellow quest icons flooding your map, you will now see more custom colors and shapes to help you find what you&#8217;re looking for. And better yet, you can filter those quest icons to just show exactly what you want to see.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not all. These quests are typically repeatable, such as daily quests.<\/li>\n<li>Local Story \u2014 Quests that explore local cultures and side adventures.<\/li>\n<li>In Progress \u2014 Quests that are currently in progress.<\/li>\n<li>Turn In \u2014 Quests that are ready to be turned in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Limited Time Activities<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>World Quest \u2014 Open world activities that give varying rewards.<\/li>\n<li>World Boss \u2014 A difficult open world boss that drops valuable loot, intended for large groups of players.<\/li>\n<li>Bonus Objective \u2014 Bonus open world activities that give EXP and varying amounts of rewards.<\/li>\n<li>Event \u2014 Various patch specific activities that provide valuable rewards.<\/li>\n<li>Rare \u2014 A special creature that provides various rewards.<\/li>\n<li>Rare Elite \u2014 A rare special creature that has a chance of dropping valuable loot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Activities<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dungeon \u2014 Content designed for a party of five adventurers, and provides loot.<\/li>\n<li>Raid \u2014 Challenging content that is intended for large groups of players, and provides valuable loot.<\/li>\n<li>Hub \u2014 A central location with NPCs, activities, and available quests.<\/li>\n<li>Digsite \u2014 An archeology location where you can dig for artefacts.<\/li>\n<li>Pet Battle \u2014 Challenge NPCs to pet battles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Movement<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teleport Point \u2014 Teleports you to a different region.<\/li>\n<li>Cave Entrance \u2014 The entrance to a cave or different zone.<\/li>\n<li>Flightpoint \u2014 Transport you to a different area in the same region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-187420\" src=\"https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking.jpg 675w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-200x113.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-80x45.jpg 80w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-398x224.jpg 398w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-620x350.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blizzardwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Map-tracking-340x191.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Tracking options on the main map<\/h2>\n<p>If you want to further customize your map, you can always go to the top corner of the main map and click on the filter button &#8212; it looks a bit like an upside down pyramid. Clicking on this opens a drop-down menu showing the options for which elements you want to display on the main map.<\/p>\n<p>Note the addition of Warband Completed Quests on the list. Certain quests can only be completed once per account for experience so the default on the map is not to display these quests. You can now see what quests you need to start and which ones are in progress that you might have forgotten about. Not that we&#8217;ve ever forgotten about an in-progress quest&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it&#8217;s the small quality of life changes that make a big impact and this feels like one of those.
