With the release The War Within<\/em>‘s pre-patch<\/a>, a lot of new and exciting features have been added to the World of Warcraft<\/em>. But the patch has meant the end of things, too, and not just not in the game. The WoW <\/em>Companion App, which launched in 2018, is now gone for good, or, as Blizzard puts it, “retiring.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Over the years, the Companion App took many forms. It started as a way to send in-game followers from Legion<\/em> on quests while you were away from your computer. Before Battle for Azeroth,<\/em> the app added the functionality of the Mobile Armory to form a single unified app, the WoW<\/em> Companion App we’ve used ever since.<\/p>\n

This new app let you chat with your guild, look up characters, and see which World Quests were up, as well asrunning follower missions from Warlords of Dreanor<\/em>, Legion<\/em>, Battle for Azeroth<\/em>, and Shadowlands<\/em>. The only feature missing was the mobile auction house, which was discontinued around the time The Caravan Brutosaur<\/a> was added to the game.<\/p>\n

But Dragonflight<\/em> didn’t continue the trend of follower table missions, so one of the biggest reasons to use the Companion App was gone. In late 2023, the auction house<\/a> feature was reintroduced after years players rallying for its return, but this wasn’t enough to save the app. On the morning of July 24, people checked the app to find it wouldn’t connect. The War Within<\/em> began, but the Companion app had ended.<\/p>\n

For now, there’s no word of any replacement app. To look up your characters you will need to use the search function at the top of the official site<\/a> and if you want to talk to your guild while out of game it will need to be through sites like Discord. As for running mission tables and auctions, those can be done in game alone.<\/p>\n
